BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

The program trains students in understanding of biodiversity conservation while focusing on earth systems, ecological cycles and sustainable development. The aim of conservation is to ensure a healthy ecosystem through retention of air, water and soil quality as well as the protection of living organisms. Students may specialize on climatology, waste management, environmental chemistry, environmental economics, environmental engineering, and environmental planning among others.
Career choices
NEMA officers at every county, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) experts registered with NEMA, Environmental Officer with Ministry of Environment, Teaching at tertiary institutions, Private Consultancy in environmental issues, Research Scientist with IUCN, ENEP.
Admission Requirements
Mean grade of C+ with C+ in Biology or agriculture and C+ in Chemistry or Geography. Admission will be granted to Diploma holders in relevant disciplines from relevant institutions recognized by CUE and Chuka University Senate

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Natural resources are important for survival of human beings and development. The main classification of natural resources include air, water, soil, minerals, energy, forest resources, rangeland, wildlife resources and fisheries resources among others. The programme exposes students to the conservation and management of the renewable and non-renewable natural resources in order to support life on earth. Renewables can regenerate by themselves with the right care; water, air, soil, vegetation, animals-human beings. Non renewables can easily get extinct if not wisely utilized. Thus training of scientists and resource managers at the bachelors level is inevitable.
Career Choices:
Expert in forest management, water resources (rivers, lakes, underground water) management, land and soil management, management of arid and semi-arid lands, climate change mitigation and adaptation expert Natural resource economists, Natural resource mapping for planning,  Researcher in natural resources, Teaching at tertiary institutions,  KWS officer.

Admission Requirements

Mean grade of C+ and at least grade C in Biology or C+ in Agriculture and C in Chemistry and mathematics/Physics/ Geography. Diploma in Range management, animal husbandry, forestry, wildlife management and other relevant disciplines.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN WILDLIFE ENTERPRISE AND MANAGEMENT

The wildlife enterprise and management curriculum is designed to increase awareness of the importance of wildlife, plants, forests, wild animals, rangelands while considering wildlife conservation a business.

Kenya Wildlife Service, National Museums of Kenya, Community conservancies, Non-governmental Organizations, Private Zoos

Admission Requirements

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ECOTOURISM

Ecotourism means environmental tourism. Remember there are multiple forms of tourism such as wildlife based tourism, cultural tourism, beach tourism, urban tourism, mountain tourism among others. Ecotourism blends ecology skills and tourism business entrepreneurship where the trainee attains both environmental science and business management skills. Ecotourism is an alternative tourism which has been designed to prevent negative impacts of unplanned mass tourism such as environmental degradation, community economic marginalization and cultural change. Students will be trained on ecological structures, ecosystem health and sustainable tourism practices with an aim of enhancing environmental, economic and social cultural benefits of tourism to participant communities.

Mean grade of C+. Diploma in environmental, tourism, hotel/hospitality management from a recognized institution

BACHELOR OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT

Bachelor of Tourism Management is a business specialization that trains students on travel packaging, distribution and management. It covers transport system planning & management, travel manufacturing, retailing and administration as well as support services. It trains the learner to develop tourism resources, attractions, facilities, accommodation and services into a sellable product/package. Apart from explaining the above components of tourism it exposes the learner to various types of tourism (Beach tourism, business tourism, cultural tourism, wildlife based tourism, rural tourism, mountain tourism, e.t.c.): forms & scales of tourism such as International and domestic tourism; their impacts at the destination and management strategies. Approaches of tourism development (Mass tourism & Alternative tourism approaches) and various destination management options (Public led, privatized and community based management approaches) will be critiqued in this course.

BACHELOR OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT

The course is a business specialization which considers a hotel as a controlled shop. It focuses on ensuring productivity, efficiency and losses minimization in accommodation, catering and entertainment operations such as hotels, lodges, villas, apartments, cottages, restaurants, clubs and similar operations. It combines service operations and business management principles and students can specialize in front office Mgt, food & beverage mgt., housekeeping mgt., hotel marketing, accounts, hotel economics e.t.c.

Event managers/planners, food and beverage managers, executive chef, Executive house keepers, Catering officer in schools, colleges and hospitals), guest relations manager, entrepreneurship (running confectioneries, event hosting, cleaning company)

Mean grade of C+ at KCSE level and a minimum of C in Mathematics and English/Kiswahili. Diploma in tourism and hotel/hospitality management.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN RENEWABLE ENERGY

Admission Requirements

Mean grade C+ in KCSE with at least C in Biol or C+ in Agr, C in Chem and Math/Phy/Geo OR Diploma in Range Management, Animal Husbandry, Animal Health, Forestry, Wildlife Management and other related disciplines from Senate-recognized institutions.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY ENTERPRISE AND MANAGEMENT
